About
Welcome to my website. I’ve had a personal place for a long time, and it’s changed a lot over the years. Since around 2002/3 it has been somewhere for me to write about the stuff that’s happening in my life, and things that interest me. This site is one of a long stream of different concepts, styles and colour-schemes.
I was born in Beverley, East Yorkshire, on October 4, 1984. I lived there for about 17 years before my parents moved to Knedlington to renovate (and eventually live in) an old brick manor house.
Shortly after this move I finished my A-levels at Hymers College in Hull and went on to study Computer Science at the University of Manchester. Three years, one Xiaoxiao, and a lot of sleep later and I graduated with a 2:2 and got a one-year placement at Sun Microsystems, where I am today.
It’s obvious I’m a big computer fan, so it should come as no surprise that I was involved with CompSoc for two years at Manchester. My other big hobbies are travelling and photography (a member of the Manchester photography society, photoSoc); two pastimes that I find go very much hand-in-hand. I’ve visited China a number of times, as well as Japan, Thailand, Laos and Hong Kong. Unfortunately my travel closer to home is more or less limited to just Latvia, not including family holidays to Spain and France. When I have the motivation I try to sit down and watch an interesting film or with my Japanese textbooks in an attempt to get past the very basics in the hope of holding a half-decent conversation one day. Progress is slow.
Right now I’m really enjoying life and work at Sun. Beyond that I have a lot of interesting ideas of what I’d like to do… time will tell how well they work out.
